Stroke Awareness Month
High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a leading risk factor for stroke. Nearly 60 million Americans have high blood pressure, but almost a third of those don’t know they have it.
Have your blood pressure checked at least once a year – more often if you have a history of high blood pressure, have had a heart attack, are diabetic, or are overweight.
Know your family medical history. If high blood pressure runs in your family, it’s important that you ask your doctor how to control your blood pressure.
If you have high blood pressure, it's important to follow the recommendations of your doctor, which may include changes in diet, regular exercise, and the use of medication.
Read more about high blood pressure at www.stroke.org/risk.

Location: Carson Civic Center
Each step you'll take is personal. And each dollar you raise will help save lives. How far will you go to end breast cancer forever?
Your reasons for supporting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer are as unique and special as the story that motivates you. This is your opportunity to not only honor breast cancer survivors and remember people we have lost, but also to raise funds and awareness to help save lives and create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays!
The Making Strides event is not a race; it is a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. When you raise funds for a Making Strides event, you're helping create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays - where breast cancer never steals another year from anyone's life.

Carson Street Improvement Project
The Carson Street improvement project is a major step in implementing the Carson Street Master plan. The proposed improvements will transform Carson Street to a pedestrian friendly “Main Street” with a distinct identity that the entire community can be proud of. The design process for these improvements is well underway.
The Planning Commission and City Council plans are expected to consider the plans for approval on December 15th and December 20th, respectively. Construction could start as early as 2012, if funding is approved. The following design concepts were presented to the community on the November 16th "Future of Carson Street" community meeting.
If you have any questions or comments regarding these improvements, please contact Said Naaseh, Senior Planner at (310) 233-4800.
